Stephanie Brooks (b.1970) combines materials and techniques ranging from sculpture and painting to photography and engraved text. Brooks creates sleek signs and 3-dimensional wood, aluminum and enamel objects that often contain text extracted from self-help manuals and bureaucratic forms. She then reconfigures the language to bring to surface the multiple meanings inherent in the language of these forms. Other works, minimalist in appearance, exist as simply and quietly monochromatic paintings, but upon closer inspection are seen in their entirety as representations of standardization.

Stephanie Brooks lives and works in Chicago. She received an MFA degree from The University of Illinois at Chicago and teaches sculpture at The School of the Art Institute. Brooks’ work has been included in several group exhibitions in Chicago, New York, Arizona, and London. Recent solo exhibition include “Reach for the Stars”, Barat College, Lake Forest, Illinois (2000);“Stephanie Brooks”, Ten in One Gallery, New York (2000);"00 + 1" Rocket Gallery, London (2002); "Tough and Sweet", Rhona Hoffman Gallery, Chicago (2009); and "Lovely Caution", Atlanta Contemporary Museum of Art(2010)
